“Do you know your status?!”- SunServe Fort Lauderdale Youth Blog!

Do you know your status?! That sums up group last week in 5 words. Group was different this week and our question of the week was “If you were a flavored condom, what kind would you be?” Me personally I wouldn’t be a flavor because I think that condoms taste gross. What would your flavor be and why?  Some thought that they knew everything, while others knew they didn’t know anything or they only knew a little bit. Regardless,  there was so much to learn and get from. We had 4 guest speakers, FREE HIV testing, RAFFLES, and FOOD! Everyone who “thought” they knew how to even put on a condom. Well, as a matter of fact, we all had different “ideas” and thoughts about it. It taught us about safer ways of protecting yourself because most of us just know the “basic ways” of doing it.

Something like this brings us all closer together more than we realize it does because knowing that SunServe is a safe space regardless of what we are talking about and in this case about sex, protecting yourself and whoever you with it allows us to know that there is no judgement around you or the people that are there with you. It builds trust in a way that you may not even see it honestly. It’s just great being around people who are just like you or even people who accept you for you no matter what or who you like.
