Kansas’ Anti-Gay Segregation Bill- Youth Current Event Blog!

Kansas’ Anti-Gay Segregation Bill

When I read about this, my heart just stopped. The state of Kansas is trying to pass a bill that will make it unimaginably hard for any gay couple to live there. If this bill is approved, the new law will allow any individual, group, or private business to refuse to serve gay couples if ” it would be contrary to their sincerely held religious beliefs.” Gay couples can be denied access to movie theaters, stores, even public parks and hotels. A business can even refuse to hire you if are gay. If any gay couple tires to sue, not only will they lose completely, but they will be forced to pay their opponent’s a attorney fee. Can you image just how impossible living would be?!

However, I’m afraid it gets worse. The new law will also permit government employees to deny service to  gays in the name of ” religious liberty.” An officer may refused to help a gay couple, if interacting with gays violates his/hes religious principles. Even state hospitals can deny helping a gay couple. A HOSPITAL!! Tell me that isn’t just sad. They would rather have them die, then help- all because of their sexual orientation. This bill, however, does not say anything about a gay individual- not yet anyway. Lets all hope things get better in the upcoming future!
