WHAT IS  THE FISP SUN PROGRAM ?

SUN is FUN!  –  SUN is confidential  – SUN is finding new friends  –  SUN is helping and being helped

The FISP SUN Program is a structured Problem Solving, Social Skills and Support peer program facilitated

by a adult FISP trained SUN professional.  FISP has enhanced and further developed this program which was

created by Dr. Judith Tellerman in Chicago in collaboration with Nova Southeastern University.  Together with

many local organizations who supply the locations and participants, FISP is able to help many of Florida’s citizens

live more successful and healthier lives.

The original SUN Program Model was developed for teens by Dr. Judith Tellerman in Chicago.  FISP has determined

that is also a very flexible program model that can be adapted and utilized with any age group.  This adaptability has

allowed FISP to develop additional groups in partnership with many agencies.

This expansion has included our SUNSHINE Club for the elderly in partnership with the Health and Human Services

Elderly and Veteran’s Department in Broward County.  FISP will be starting groups at their facility in 2008-2009.

The newly funded FISP Adam Silverman Memorial College Model is in development in partnership with Hillel

College Programs in Broward and Palm Beach and Nova Southeastern University in Davie.

FISP has been very successful at providing the SUN Program to hundreds of children in YMCA after school programs, teens in the Broward County Juvenile Justice system including Teens in the Broward Detention facility, the LEAF residential girls facility and teens on probation at the Florida Ocean Sciences Institute, FOSI.  Additionally we have serviced Hispanic Unity of Florida in Hollywood and SOS Children’s Village in Coconut Creek, Boys & Girls Clubs,

Children’s Harbor, and will are partnering with the Abolish Bullying groups in Miami-Dade and Broward County to use SUN to help stop bullying.  We also adults groups with specific needs including recovering woman with children at the Susan B. Anthony recovery Center and the H.O.P.E. Sun program for spinal cord injured adults at Health South Rehabilitation Center.  FISP adapts the delivery of our SUN program to each groups needs and constraints.

All SUN programs are provided to our partner organizations and participants at no cost to either through funds acquired through grants, fundraising events, donations and the support of interested citizens like you.
